A 40th birthday, a stolen cache of Hatton Garden diamonds and a mission that sent two unsuspecting guests deep into London’s criminal underworld. What began at The Ritz quickly spiralled into a city-wide chase involving MI5 agents, gang members, hidden clues, secret meetings and a final diamond deal beneath the streets of Borough Market.
Our client wanted to surprise his wife with something completely unexpected for her 40th birthday.
He didn’t want a party or a dinner, he was after a full-scale immersive experience that would blur the line between fiction and reality, and take his wife on the adventure of her life.
We knew experience needed to feel cinematic, fast-moving and unpredictable, unfolding across London with live actors, hidden locations, coded messages and escalating stakes from beginning to end.
We built a live-action spy thriller inspired by London gangster lore and the Hatton Garden heist.
The guest of honour discovered she was the doppelgänger of a notorious diamond thief and was recruited by MI5 to infiltrate the gang before the syndicate uncovered the truth.
From the outset, every location and interaction was designed to push the story forward, this included things like cocktails with gang members, a secret mission through the London Dungeons, a flashmob, graffiti and coded playing cards.
The experience unfolded in real time, with the couple racing across London, uncovering and following a thrilling and exciting storyline.
The mission began at The Ritz, where an unexpected phone call from an MI5 agent warned the guest pf honour she was being watched. Minutes later, she was fleeing the hotel and into a waiting getaway car, as a rival gang member pursued her.
Over the next four hours, the couple followed a shifting trail of clues, lockboxes, burner phones and undercover characters across the city.
At the London Dungeons, hidden diamonds were uncovered, before a flash mob on the South Bank revealed another. Beneath Waterloo, the guests were forced to prove themselves to the gang before receiving further instructions from a syndicate-linked rapper.
The final act led them beneath Borough Market for a tense underground diamond exchange before a dramatic escape with the diamonds intact.
The mission ended with a debrief and romantic dinner at The Shard.
What started as a one-off birthday surprise has since evolved into a fully realised immersive experience.
